Friday Fact: ZUMBA!

Today’s Friday Fact comes to us from the wonderful world of ZUMBA.

A phenomenon that’s sweeping the nation? Seems a possibility – it’s definitely swept MY nation. Who wouldn’t want to dance hard for an hour – shaking your hips (and other things!) and moving your body in ways you didn’t remember was possible – and counting it as EXERCISE???

Fact: exercise makes me happy.

Fact: dancing makes me happy.

Put ‘em together, and wadda ya got? A high-adrenaline-ridin’ booty-shakin’ hair-flippin’ cant-breathe-but-am-still-smilin’ darn-right HAPPY Stepper!

Not to mention all the new moves I get to try out on Bill when I get home from the Gym. Mui Beneficio!

Zumba’s literal translation? “It Hums”

Yes, it does.

Here’s the skinny:

Zumba was created mid-90’s by Columbia’s native Alberto Perez, known by his friends as “Beto”.

Here's Beto, offering to rock your world:

Beto choreographed for international pop and superstars before thinking, “Hey…why should not EVERYONE meringue?” He slapped a step to a tune and Zumba was born.

Actually, it was a bit of an accident.

Beto’s business partner Perlman said, "One day, Beto forgot his aerobics tapes, so he played his salsa and meringue songs during class in their original form. People went crazy.”

That’s Beto for you. Breaking the rules and turning Exercise into a party.

And who says that cha-cha and hip-hop don’t mix?
